Pawn Shop Worker Found Shot To Death Inside Family's Store

GRANITE FALLS, N.C. —

Investigators gathered evidence well into the night Monday at a family-owned pawn shop in Granite Falls where customers found the father of the owner shot to death hours earlier.

Granite Falls police said they plan to bring in a sketch artist on Tuesday in hopes of getting a good picture of the suspect.

Police said they got a 911 call around 1:30 p.m. Monday from two customers who said they walked in to find Tony Lee Myers, 65, dead from a gunshot wound.

Police said Myers worked at the shop, which is owned by his son.

Investigators wouldn't say if anything was taken from the store.

Family and friends of Myers came to the crime scene looking for more answers.

One friend, who did not want to be identified, said Myers talked about getting out of the pawn shop business as late as last week.

"He'd been talking about it for a while," the friend said, "that he was tired of the pawn business and it was getting dangerous and he knew it."

Police said Monday evening that they did not have have a good description of the shooter but did interview some potential witnesses who may have seen someone in the area.

Officers asked anyone who may have seen anything to call the Granite Falls Police Department at 828-396-3358.
