Police: Car Break-Ins Bankrolling Gang Members

PINEVILLE, N.C. —

Gangs are behind many of the car break-ins and car thefts in Pineville, police said Tuesday night.

Officers said they arrested two members of the MS-13 gang Monday night as they were breaking into a car at the Pines apartments.

Police charged German Toscano and Leonel Hidalgo with larceny from auto and possession of a stolen car.

Investigators say they're looking at these two men in connection with several other car larcenies across Pineville.

They say the crime allows gang members to turn a quick profit on the street and pour the money back into running a gang.
