CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Police in Charlotte said a 7-and 8-year-old were playing with a lighter and started a fire in their home Sunday.

The fire started in the children's bedroom. It destroyed the family’s home on Coronet Way.

Firefighters said there were six people inside the home, but everyone got outside safely.

For Charlotte firefighters, it's been a busy holiday weekend. They responded to seven house fires since Thanksgiving.

Firefighters said the fire caused upwards of $50,000 worth of damage.
