Police: Father intentionally ran into traffic with daughter on I-77

Police have released new details after a man and his daughter were hit along Interstate 77 Sunday night.

Police said a father ran into traffic near Remount Road in an attempt to commit suicide while holding his 2-year-old daughter about 8:20 p.m..

They both suffered major injuries, police said.

Police said the accident caused a multi-vehicle pile-up.

The father will be charged with child abuse inflicting serious injury and attempted first-degree murder, police said.

All northbound lanes of I-77 were closed for several hours following the accident. The interstate reopened just before 11 p.m.

The man’s identity has not been released by investigators.
