CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are having a tough time keeping up with brazen burglaries.

Since Monday, there have been 18 break-ins across east Charlotte.

Police said thieves drive around neighborhoods at night so they can see into windows and check out what valuables are at home. Then they return during the day while they believe the homeowner is at work.

"They are mostly going for electronics, jewelry and firearms," said investigator Brian Wakeland.

Police are asking neighbors to be vigilant and call 911 with any suspicious behavior.
