MONROE, N.C. —
Brian Green owns an antique store in Monroe, and said he received one of the fliers.
“It’s sick,” he said. “I have two small children – 21-month old twin boys. It's upsetting to know that there are people who will do this.”
The mailers tease “a unique offer” and a “Valentine’s Day Special.” They also prominently list the name Key Printing and Graphics and suggest the pornography was sent by owner James Robinette.
Robinette declined an on-camera interview, but vigorously denied any connection to the fliers.
Police said they don’t believe Robinette was involved. Instead, they believed he was targeted. When asked if it appeared that someone was trying to harm Robinette’s business, Monroe Police Capt. David Williams said yes.
“Like I said, our investigation is continuing,” Williams said. “But that is what it's leading us to at this time.”
Other Monroe residents agreed.
“I know the owners at the printing place and they are good, Christian people,” Robin Anderson said. “That would not happen from their organization.”
Police are searching for clues that could lead them to the person who did send the fliers. The postmark is of particular interest, because it shows that the fliers were sent from Charlotte, not Monroe.
The State Bureau of Investigation and postal inspectors are actively trying to track down leads.
