LAKE WYLIE, N.C. —

Police said a 19-year-old man drowned near McDowell Park on Lake Wylie Friday night.

Multiple agencies worked to save the man.

Friends said the man was swimming across a cove, started struggling, then went under the surface. A friend called 911 just after 8 p.m. Friday.

Medic, firefighters and police were called to the scene on Soldier Road. Additional dive teams were also called.

After nearly an hour, two divers found the man underwater. Medic workers performed CPR on him while he was rushed to CMC-Pineville.
