Police Investigating Deadly Accident Involving Cab

A deadly accident just before 5 a.m. Friday shut down lanes in both directions of North Tryon in north Charlotte.

Officials told Channel 9 they think a cab was speeding when it drove in front of a garbage truck on North Tryon near the 29/49 split.

Police said the cab driver, 39-year-old Dianne Yvonne Mitchell, died at the scene. The truck driver went to a hospital but is expected to be OK.

The southbound lanes reopened just after 6:30 a.m. The northbound lanes were closed for several hours as officials investigated.
