GASTONIA, N.C. —

Gastonia police arrested a man for shoplifting after he tried to swallow the evidence, they said.

Gary Lee Garber, 29, took a charm off a package that contained an anti-theft device at the Dollar Tree in Franklin Square on Wednesday morning, the Gaston Gazette reported.

Garber swallowed the charm after a store security guard stopped him, but police said Garber regurgitated it.

Police charged Garber with larceny and then found marijuana and pills on him, which he also faces charges for.

He was jailed with bail set at $10,000.
