Police: Mother Charged With Child Abuse After Passing Out

LOWELL, N.C. —

A mother in Lowell is facing charges after police said she passed out with her 6-year-old son in the house.

People in Lowell would often see Misty Falls playing with her son outside or walking him to school. What she's accused of doing last night has outraged parents like Kim Gibby.

“I think it’s horrible,” Gibby said.

Lowell police said Monday she was home alone with her 6-year-old son. They said she was passed out and so impaired that reporting officer couldn't wake her. Officers had to call medics.

“Anything could have happened to the kid, and she was passed out,” Gibby said.

The picture painted by the reporting officer indicates there was a lot more going on inside. He reported seeing beer bottles, pills bottles, and evidence of drug use throughout the house.

Falls’ father happened to stop by and found the child and then called 911.

“Oh she is passed out right here and the father-in-law had to come get the grandson,” he said to the 911 operator.

Police said there is no evidence that the child came in contact with the items around the house.
