Police: Student Made Threat, Left Home With Gun

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Students and staff arriving at Charlotte's E.E. Waddell High School Tuesday morning found extra police officers on campus. The increased security came after police say a student had threatened to kill the school's resource officer and some administrators.

Officers said 18-year-old Omarius Daniels made the threats late Monday night and left home with a gun.

Police said Daniels was upset because the resource officer arrested him on Friday for assaulting another student on campus and resisting arrest.

A team of officers arrested Daniels at his home about a mile from the school late Tuesday morning. They said he did not resist and that they didn’t find a gun at the home.

"We thought it was in our best interest to act not only for the security of the school and the individuals that were named, but the public at large," Sgt. Dave Schwob said.

Daniels did not comment as officers led him into the Law Enforcement Center for questioning.
