Police: Underage Drinking Party Advertised On Facebook

BESSEMER CITY, N.C. —

Investigators aren't sure why someone might have advertised an illegal party on the social networking Web site Facebook.

"Anything you post on the Internet stays on the Internet," Gaston County Police Capt. William Melton said, "If you're not comfortable with it being on the news, then don't post it."

Police said they got a tip, checked out the site, and went to a Bessemer City house. Officers said they found dozens of people drinking underage. Investigators charged 31 people and arrested two-- the homeowner, Steven Haney, and his girlfriend, Melissa Wilson.

Our newspaper partner, the Gaston Gazette, reported police used a stun gun on her because she refused to sit down.

Neighbors said they didn't even hear that much commotion.

"There was a crowd out there. I admit that. But, they were just talking,” Nella Neal said.
