CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Police are looking for two women after a woman shopping in a Borders bookstore said she was the victim of a scam.

VIDEO: Thieves scam woman for $15,000 in south Charlotte

The victim told police the women approached her saying they found a purse with $60,000 in it Wednesday afternoon.

One of the women claimed she worked at a nearby Harris Teeter grocery store and said they should talk to the manager to determine if they could keep the money.

The thieves claimed the manager said the money is "untaxed, illegal" money, but can be redeemed by paying taxes on it.

The victim said she withdrew $15,000 from her bank account and gave it to the women.

The women claimed they needed to speak with the manager individually.

Police say the women fled the scene when the victim went inside the grocery store.

Authorities say perpetrators in cases of this nature are usually not from the area and warn that those responsible could still be nearby.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (704) 334-1600.
