A man is in jail on Monday night, accused of kidnapping, then sexually assaulting a woman at an east Charlotte apartment complex.
Officers tracked him down late Sunday night and arrested him.
Police told Eyewitness news that neighbors heard the woman screaming and tried to help.
Police said it is because of witnesses that they were able to make an arrest so quickly.
They said it all happened at the Silver Oak Apartments, on Monroe Road.
Police arrested 21-year-old Christian Pinzon-Reyes and charged him with rape and kidnapping.
Investigators said it happened around 9:45 p.m. Sunday night when a woman was walking along Monroe Road.
"It's stunning because there's an awful lot of police presence up and down the road through the alleyway, but it's stunning, it's scary," said Rose Doherty.
Police said when witnesses who heard the screams tried to help, the attacker ran away. They were able to give officers a good description, enabling the officers to catch him a short time later, police said.
