Voters are heading to the polls Tuesday, some for primary elections, others for main elections.
Hickory and Mooresville are holding primary elections Tuesday. Voters in these areas have a chance to choose which candidates will appear on the ballot in November.
Monroe, Hemby Bridge, Statesville, Shelby, Kingstown and Boone are holding actual elections Tuesday. Residents can also cast votes on the Iredell school bond issues. All of the results for races in these areas will be final unless there is a need for a runoff election in November.
North Carolina law allows municipalities to hold their elections earlier than the general elections. The decision is at the town's discretion.
