ROCK HILL, S.C. —

Six people have been displaced after a radio short-circuited and sparked a small fire that caused heavy smoke
damage to their apartment Saturday night.

According to Capt. Tony Peay with the Rock Hill Fire Department, fire crews used 500 gallons of water to put out the fire at
the Arborwood Apartments around 11 p.m. The fire filled the residents bedroom as well as the hallway.

The three women and three children were able to get out of the apartment safely.

Fire melted black plastic from the radio, which was standing on top of a dresser near some clothes.

According to Peay, the apartment only suffered smoke damage.

Peay estimated all three children were under the age of 10.

The American Red Cross is helping the family.
