Second Wave Of CMS Parents Mobilizes To Stop Attendance Moves

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

School boundaries were once again a topic of debate for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools on Tuesday night.

Parents in the Cotswold neighborhood successfully stopped plans last week to move their children out of the attendance zone for Myers Park High School.

The focus turned Tuesday evening to overcrowding at Eastover Elementary.

Two of the options being considered involve changing boundaries to move students to less crowded schools.

A third option would send Eastover students to the larger Myers Park Traditional building and Myers Park students to the Eastover building.

Opponents against all three options shared their opinion at a public forum Tuesday night.

Parents at Eastover said they hope whichever option is chosen is long-term.

"It shouldn't be how many people attend the meeting," parent Alan Jacobs said. "It should be done by what is in the best interest of the children."

Parents will have another chance to share their opinions next week during a meeting at Myers Park High School.
