CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

A sinkhole has opened up in the roadway on Morehead Street at Kenilworth Avenue just outside of uptown Charlotte.

The left turn lane and left through lane are closed on westbound Morehead Street while crews try to repair the road. Charlotte-Mecklenburg utility workers are also at the scene to make sure no pipes are damaged during the repairs.

City officials expected the lanes to remain closed until around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. They were still closed well into Tuesday evening.
