CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will stay open during the Democratic National Convention but will see some big changes.

The three schools within the Interstate 277 loop will alter their bell schedules and shorten their days.

First Ward Elementary will have early dismissals on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of that week.

The Metro School and Irwin Academic Center will have early dismissals that Thursday.

The district will also adjust 325 bus routes to deal with potential traffic issues while police escort some buses through uptown.

Superintendent Heath Morrison said the district will have to take some officers out of schools.

"Some of our school resource officers will be down here in the city instead of out in our schools," Morrison said. "And our principals are aware of that."

Morrison said it's still unclear which schools will be affected.

The DNC will be in Charlotte from Sept. 3-6.
