TEGA CAY, S.C. —
A lieutenant with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources said 8-year-old Tanner Blake Goshen was riding in a boat with his family shortly after noon while they pulled another child behind the boat in a tube or raft. Officers said there was a problem with the rope and Goshen fell out of the boat, hitting the propellers as he went into the water.
Investigators told Eyewitness News Goshen was wearing a life jacket when he fell out of the boat.
Amy Poole was laying near the lake at Windjammer Park when she heard screams from the boy's family on the water.
"They were screaming for towels so I threw him a towel and they wrapped them around his lower torso," Poole said. "They were giving him CPR."
Witnesses said the boy's family put him on a tube and pulled him up to Windjammer Park, where paramedics rushed to save him. Goshen died at the scene.
"The whole family was there to see this and I pray they find comfort somehow," Poole said.
Phil Goshen, the victim's father, said his family was too distraught to talk about the accident. The family said there will be a visitation for Tanner Goshen on Tuesday at McEwen Funeral Home in Pineville. The funeral will be Wednesday at the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church on Moss Road in Charlotte.
