MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. —
Mecklenburg County Statement:
We are glad to talk with WSOC to help you and your viewers better understand the rules, regulations and responsibilities involved with health and human service programs, including child protective services and DSS.
It should be noted that the Department of Social Services, Youth & Family Services Division, had 9,475 cases involving 19,660 children in Fiscal Year 2012 (July 2011-June 2012) managed by 286 employees.
Even with that tremendous caseload, YFS’s results include the following:
--97.07% of children who entered custody in FY12 did not re-enter custody within a 12 month period (only 10 of the 341 children who entered custody in FY12 re-entered custody within 12 months of having left custody).
--96.96% of those substantiated for maltreatment did not have a reoccurrence within the fiscal year (of the 1745 children substantiated in FY12, 1692 did not have a second substantiation within the fiscal year).
--100% of children in Foster Care in FY12 did not have any maltreatment.
We will not comment or respond further regarding former DSS Director Mary Wilson, and we stand by the public Notice of Final Decision posted last fall on www.mecklenburgcountync.gov and linked below.
