Students Injured In West Charlotte School Bus Crash

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

A dozen people were injured in a school bus crash in west Charlotte early Wednesday.

The bus driver and 11 children were transported to local hospitals -- five students to Presbyterian Hospital and six students and the driver to Carolinas Medical Center. MEDIC said all the injuries are minor, mostly bumps and bruises.

The crash involving bus No. 106, which was going to Whitewater Middle School, happened on Freedom Drive near Dunham Memorial Baptist Church shortly after 8:30 a.m. The fully loaded bus was rear-ended by a box truck at a bus stop outside the Westside Apartments.

The students who were not injured, about 50 in all, were put onto another bus and taken to school. Parents are encouraged to call the school district if they have any questions.
