Students Want To Change Schools After Shooting

A girl was shot just a block from the E.E. Waddell High School campus. Now some students are considering changing schools because of the violence.

There were extra police officers stationed at E.E. Waddell High School on Wednesday and the district said it will increase the use of random metal detectors following an off-campus shooting Tuesday afternoon.

Parent Kathy Farris is concerned, but confident in how the school administration is handling things.

"I had no trouble bringing my kid to school today. I think he'll be fine. He's going to be safe," she said.

The security crackdown comes after police found a 15-year old Waddell student with a gun on campus earlier in the day.

The suspect charged with bring a gun to school is also charged with shooting from a car into a vehicle at Interstate 77 and Nations Ford Road, hitting a 15-year old fellow student in the ankle.

A Waddell student who didn't want to be identified said he worries about random violence even standing outside at the bus stop. So he's thinking of having his mom take action.

"I'm thinking of seeing if she'll move me to a different school if it keeps going on. If it stops, I won't. But if it does, I may try to move to another school," he said.
