MOUNT HOLLY, NC —
Troopers say a teenage driver lost control of a Jeep coming around a turn on Stanley Lucia Road, crossed the center line and slammed head-on into a pickup truck. "As soon as I heard the scream and the bump, I started praying," said Kathryn Pell.
She heard the impact of her crash from her home nearby. "The (pickup's) front side was bashed in and (the driver) was stuck inside," Pell said. Emergency crews would ultimately rescue the man and lift his car out of a ditch. Before any ambulances showed up, witnesses say a nurse and an Army medic drove by and both stopped to help. They worked to stabilize one of the teens inside the Jeep, who was having a seizure. "They, like, took over," Pell said. "The nurse said, 'You go here' and 'You stay there.' I don't know who she was, but she did a great job." Troopers cited the driver of the Jeep with driving left of center. Authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash. All of the passengers in the Jeep and pickup were taken to a nearby hospital and later released.
