Teen Faces 5 Charges In Fatal Huntersville Crash

 

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. —

Huntersville police have charged an 18-year-old in connection with a crash near Birkdale Village that killed another teenager.

Don McDermott, 17, was killed in the April 25 crash. Police said Mark McMahon was driving 50 to 60 mph in a 25 mph zone when he crashed his car, in which McDermott was a passenger.

McMahon is charged with involuntary manslaughter, driving while impaired, careless and reckless driving, possession of a toxic substance and inhaling a toxic substance.

Witnesses told investigators both of the teens had been at a party on the night of the crash and had been huffing fumes.
