CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
An 18-year-old died after a car accident in north Charlotte on Tuesday evening.
Police Investigate Fatal Crash
Police said Kiara Wright, a senior at North Mecklenburg High School, turned in front of a pickup truck just after 6 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Browne and DeArmon roads. The front of the truck struck the driver's side door of Wright's car, investigators said.
Wright's brother, 21-year-old Cameron Lamont Brown, and 19-year-old Xavier Donte Joplin were also in the car and were injured in the crash. Both Joplin and Brown are listed as 2010 graduates of North Mecklenburg High School.
Wright was taken to Carolinas Medical Center, where she later died.
Grief counselors are available to students at North Mecklenburg High School, officials said. Students said they’re stunned by the tragedy.
“She was on the right track to do whatever she had to do in life. Whatever God had planned for her,” senior Tre Long said. “I just feel sorry for her parents, Xavier's parents, because I've known her for so long.”
Joplin and Brown were also taken to CMC for treatment. Joplin was released overnight, and as of Wednesday afternoon, Brown was listed as being in fair condition.
The driver of the truck that struck Wright’s car suffered minor injuries and was treated and released at Presbyterian Hospital in Huntersville, police said.
