Thieves Steal Fuel Delivery Truck Filled With Heating Oil

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Police said thieves stole a tanker filled with heating oil from in front of Herrin Brothers on 36th Street in north Charlotte on Wednesday.

According to police, thieves drove the large orange and blue fuel truck through the business' fence.

Herrin Brother Vice President Lee Herrin said the truck can deliver thousands of gallons of fuel for business or home use, but the truck itself only contained less than 100 gallons of heating oil.

Herrin said he wonders why anyone would want to steal one of his two delivery trucks.

"The only thing we can think of why anyone would want something like that would be for construction purposes for fueling equipment. That's the only thing they're really good for -- delivering fuel," said Herrin.

Investigators said the robbery happened sometime between 5 p.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. Wednesday.
