Three Teens Charged In Homeless Man’s Beating Death In Statesville

STATESVILLE, N.C. —

Statesville police have charged three teenagers in the beating death of a homeless man and they say they’re looking for one more.

A 15-year-old was arrested early Thursday and around 4:30 p.m. 16-year-old Jatorre Dixon walked into the Statesville Police Department and turned himself in. Another teen was taken into custody late Thursday.

Terry Turner, 45, died on Monday. Investigators say about 10 teenagers attacked him at a busy intersection near the police department one week ago.

Police have not released the names of two of the teens arrested because they are minors.

All three teens will face first-degree murder and robbery charges. Authorities said they may press charges against two other teens also.

Turner’s relatives along with local businesspeople are taking steps to bring awareness to the man’s beating death and raise money to offer a reward in the case.

The man’s cousin, Allan Turner, said he’s seen a good response from local residents and many have donated money.

“We’re making sure whoever did this comes to justice,” he said.

Anyone with information that could help authorities should call Iredell County Crime Stoppers at (704) 437-2677 or the Statesville Police Department at (704) 878-3406.
