CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

The parents of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill mascot who was killed last year will appear on the Oprah Winfrey Show on Thursday afternoon.

Jason Ray, who grew up in Concord, was an organ donor. His parents met the people whose lives were saved by his death on the show.

The man who got Ray's heart said he's thankful.

"I'm thrilled to be a part of Jason's legacy. I'm a testimony to God's grace and mercy. It was God's plan and I'm grateful," he said.

Police in New Jersey say a car hit and killed Ray while he walked on a busy highway during the NCAA tournament last year.

The Oprah Winfrey Show airs on WSOC-TV at 4 p.m.
