UNCC Football Gains Community Support, Money

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

UNC Charlotte football is getting support from the community.

Chancellor Dr. Phil Dubois recommended to the board of trustees to add football to the sports program on Thursday, Sept. 18.

That recommendation called for the sale of 5,000 reserved seat tickets within six months of the board's approval.

Between the 18th and the end of business Friday, almost 3,000 people had signed up to reserve seat tickets. That's almost $3 million in monetary support. That puts the school at almost 60 percent of goal in two weeks.

The school said it will not collect money until the team is approved by the board of trustees.

The board vote is scheduled for November.
