University Officials Meet To Discuss Possible Tuition Hike For North Carolina Schools

The University of North Carolina School System's Board of Governors will vote on a tuition hike on Friday.

The board met on also met on Thursday to talk about the possible rise in tuition.

The average hike would be 1.2% at the 16 state schools. Last year, tuition jumped more than 6 percent for in-state students. That means right now, students at UNC-Charlotte pay $4,091 dollars a year for school.

If officials decide to raise tuition prices, high school seniors and parents can get help to pay for college.

Saturday is "FAFSA Day" around North Carolina. FAFSA stands for "Free Application for Federal Student Aid," and the government can help pay for college.

Many counties will host workshops where students and parents can learn how to fill a form. The Downtown Public Library in Uptown Charlotte will host a workshop from 9:30 a.m.- 2 p.m.. UNCC will also have a FAFSA Day Workshop from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.

Students will have to bring several things to the workshops, including a completed 2007 Federal tax return, a special pin number, and a pre-application.
