Vandals Dig Up Grave In Northwest Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

You've heard of people vandalizing cemeteries, but this case went to the extremes.

In northwest Charlotte, it looked like someone tried to dig up a casket. It's in a small burial ground, set back in a field among trees and tall grass.

The property belongs to Saint Paul Community Missionary Baptist Church. Robert Willis is a deacon there. He said, "You look at that and you say, 'who would do that to a grave site? Who would desecrate a grave like that?'"

We're trying to find out if police have any suspects. Apparently, officers told Willis they'll add patrols in the meantime.

We told people in the closest subdivision about the vandalism. Allison McDaniel said, "Freaky. That's pretty scary."
