CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
Attorney Ken Harris said the witness was at the Food Lion store on Prosperity Church Road last Thursday. The witness said 17-year-old Darryl Turner did not threaten the officer before the Taser hit him.
A statement sent to Eyewitness News recounts what the witness told Harris he saw. It reads, “The officer told Darryl to ‘step back!’”
The witness said Turner simply obeyed the officer's command to step back and was then hit with the Taser. He later died.
Police are investigating the incident. They said they found three small bags of marijuana in Turner's sock after his death, but a search of his car didn't turn up any more drugs.
Officers said they hope to learn more about Turner’s death when the full autopsy report is released.
