Woman Killed, Police Search For Gunman In Northeast Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Police officers and SWAT officers with machine guns searched for a homicide suspect in the woods near Reedy Creek Park Saturday.

Officers said Davon Londell Thomas, 27, shot and killed his girlfriend at a home on Willowglen Trail in Northeast Charlotte around 5 a.m.

Police said the call came in as an argument at the address.

"We know that we received a call that there was some type of argument going on and that's what brought us to the area in the first place," Capt. Freda Lester said.

Thomas's girlfriend died on the scene, according to investigators. Police have not released her name.

Thomas was living with his parents at the home, and fled on foot, leaving his truck at the scene, police said.

Eyewitness News checked Thomas's arrest record and found he has convictions for assault with a deadly weapon and an arrest for assault on a female.

Thomas has a military background and is considered armed and dangerous, police said.

Officers used k-9 dogs and a helicopter to search for Thomas for several hours Saturday. If you know where he could be, call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
