Women, Children Escape Burning SUV On Charlotte Interstate

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

A car fire backed up holiday traffic in Charlotte Wednesday night.

Two women and two children were able to escape moments before the SUV burst into flames on I-85 near Graham Street.

Dianna Brown took pictures of her car that was gutted by flames. She told Eyewitness news she smelled something burning, then saw smoke coming from the hood.

The family got out and started running down the interstate because they were afraid the car would explode.

“It’s really unbelievable, it really is. I’ve never seen anything like this happen,” Brown said, as she looked at what was left of her vehicle.

A Good Samaritan stayed with the family until police and firefighters arrived. Brown said even though her car is destroyed, she’s thankful everyone is safe.
