Women Fight Off Intruder After Attempted Rape

North Charlotte —

A North Charlotte woman said that she woke up to the sound of her roommate screaming and found a man had broken in their home early Sunday morning.

Charlotte police are canvassing the neighborhood off McDaniel Lane looking for the culprit.

Channel 9 reporter Alan Cavanna spoke with one of the women on Monday and said that the victim does not want to be identified.

The victim said the man broke into their home by removing a fan that was in a window.

Charlotte police said that the man attempted to rape one of the women inside the home but the victim was able to scream and fight him off and escape to another room.

The two women barricaded the door but at one point the man reached in and grabbed the ankles of one of the women scratching at her.

The two women then called 911 and the attacker ran out the back door.

Police are still searching for the man and said the attack is concerning because of the nature of the crime.

If you have any information on this case please call Crimestoppers at 704-334-1600.
