1 dead in fire at SC motel

GREENVILLE, S.C. — (AP) Greenville County officials say one person has died after an explosion and fire at a motel.

The coroner's office was called to the Quality Inn and Suites in Greenville around 5:30 a.m. Monday. The victim's name has not been released.

Deputy Coroner Jeff Fowler said no other injuries were reported.

Sheriff's deputies and the Gant Fire Department were at the scene. A deputy said the fire seemed to be contained to one room.

Guests were evacuated to the lobby.
