Coast Guard: 14 injuries reported in NC coast ferry accident

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Multiple injuries were reported after a Bald Head Island ferry ran aground Tuesday near Battery Island near Southport, N.C., according to a news release from the U.S. Coast Guard.

The crew of the Adventure, a 64-foot ferry, contacted Coast Guard Station Oak Island watch standers around 9 a.m., reporting they ran aground and passengers aboard were in need of medical assistance.

The Coast Guard used a shallow-water skiff to medevac 14 passengers from the Adventure. The crews aboard the two rescue boats then took the injured passengers to Deep Point Marina.
