High school basketball brawl leads to 3 arrests

WARE SHOALS, S.C. — (AP) Authorities continue to investigate a brawl after a high school basketball game in Ware Shoals.

Police say the fight started after a Ware Shoals High School player punched a Tamassee-Salem High School player after the game Friday night. The player who threw the punch told officers he had been called a racial slur.

Authorities say the punch caused fans to spill out of the stands and start brawling. Once those fights were broken up, another brawl happened in the Ware Shoals High School parking lot near the bus taking the other team home.

At least three people have been charged, and investigators say more arrests are possible.

The South Carolina High School League will also review the fight and could punish the schools and players.
