NC firefighters using Google Glass to help save lives

ROCKY MOUNT — Some North Carolina firefighters are using new technology to help save lives.

Rocky Mount firefighter Patrick Jackson uses Google Glass when he is called into action.

Google Glass is a computer screen smaller than a fingernail, and Jackson can use it hands free. It lets him use an app he created called Firefighter Log that gives him directions, injury reports, and even helps to find the nearest fire hydrant.

"When somebody calls for a fire or a medical emergency, that information goes straight to Google Glass. It gives us the address, the nature of the call and a map," Jackson said.

The firefighter also says the technology is an upgrade from their slower, more expensive computers.
