Nightly closures for portions of I-85 due to construction

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Portions of Interstate 85 north of Charlotte will be closing at night this week for construction.

The Charlotte Department of Transportation tells media outlets that crews will close south-bound lanes entering the city from exit 42 to exit 45A between 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. on Monday and Tuesday.

North-bound lanes exiting the city along that portion of the roadway will be closed during the same time on Thursday and Friday.

Both lanes will be open on Wednesday.

Signs will be posted on the interstate warning drivers in advance and providing detour directions.

CDOT says the best re-routes for Charlotte traffic include using N. Tryon Street.

Motorist passing through the Charlotte area are encouraged to take I-77 or I-485.
