NC teenage murder suspect recaptured after brief escape

HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — An inmate charged with first-degree murder who escaped from an Orange County transport van has been recaptured.

The sheriff's department told local media that 17-year-old Micah Cameron jumped from the van around 1:30 a.m. Friday in Hillsborough but was captured several hours later.

The teen was being transferred from the Rockingham County jail when he escaped. Officials say he had lived in the area previously.

Sheriff's deputies said Cameron was caught less than a mile from where he escaped around 6:45 a.m. Friday.

The teen had been restrained with leg irons, handcuffs and a belly chain. He was still restrained and wearing a prison jumpsuit when he was caught.

Cameron is charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and felony probation violation.
