Police say man accused of kidnapping ex-wife arrested

KNOXVILLE, TENN. — North Carolina troopers and the Federal Bureau of Investigation were searching for a woman who was kidnapped.

Dennis Smith was found in McDowell County, according to the FBI. They had searched for him near Union County.

Tamra Beam, 51, was working in a Knoxville, Tennessee, home when investigators think her ex-husband Smith, 53, abducted her.

The victim was safely recovered at a rest stop off of Interstate 40 near Marion, North Carolina, around 6:40 a.m. Thursday, officials said.

Authorities across several states were searching for a Blue Ford Fusion. The car was registered out of Union County, according to affiliate WATE.
