One team, 6 charities: CLTRG enhancing Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Without a doubt, athletic teams work hard to improve themselves, whether it is on the court, field or rink.

However, there is one team in Charlotte that goes above and beyond to improve not only themselves, but the community as well.

The Charlotte Roller Girls is a team that is made up of women who are working hard to stay physically active and enhance the Charlotte community every time they take the flat track.

The group, also known as CLTRG, was founded in 2006 and is a skater-owned and -operated organization.

According to the Roller Girls website, the group formed to promote the sport of roller derby and to enrich the Charlotte community. The league and its members donate time and a portion of bout proceeds to local charitable causes.

A 'bout' is the roller derby term for a game or match.

Every season, the CLTRG sponsors a charity and works to benefit that charity to the best of their ability.

According to the CLTRG website, the team is dedicated to enhancing the local community through volunteerism, donations and partnerships with local charitable organizations.

One of the charities that the Charlotte Roller Girls are supporting in 2012 is Girls on the Run.

Girls on the Run is a nonprofit organization that seeks to empower girls in grades 3-8 through the power of exercise during a 12-week program.

CLTRG has worked and is working with organizations across the Charlotte community, such as the Second Harvest Food Bank, Over the Edge, and the Community Blood Center.
