“COURAGE: The Carolina Story that Changed America” on display at JCSU

The exhibit “COURAGE: The Carolina Story that Changed America” is on display at Johnson C. Smith University’s James B. Duke Memorial Library while on long-term loan from the Levine Museum of the New South.

The interactive display chronicles the stories of the citizens of Clarendon County, S.C., who fought for civil rights and equality in education in their community.

The exhibit is open to the public and students during regular library hours and admission is free.

City of Charlotte MLK Holiday Parade

Charlotte’s Martin Luther King Jr. holiday parade features local high school marching bands, Junior ROTC, social and community service organizations, religious and community leaders and others.

The parade runs along North Tryon Street from 9th Street to Stonewall Street. It kicks off at 11 a.m. on Jan. 19.

Black History Month film series

Staff at the Hickory Grove library branch will facilitate a film series that ties in with Black History Month. Past series have focused on prominent performers, as well as documentaries.

The films will be shown on Feb. 5, Feb. 12, Feb. 19 and Feb. 26, at 5 p.m. on each date.
