Pedestrian struck, killed by train from Charlotte

BURLINGTON, N.C. — (AP) Burlington police say a pedestrian is dead after being struck by an Amtrak train in almost the same place a man was killed about two weeks ago.

Police say the fatal accident on Thursday afternoon involved an Amtrak passenger train traveling from Charlotte to Raleigh. Officers say they were told the person was on the railroad tracks and the train was unable to stop.

The victim's identity hasn't been released. No one aboard the train was injured.

A 22-year-old Gibsonville man was killed by the same train on May 20 as he was walking on the train tracks about two miles away.
