Police arrest man accused of running over pregnant girlfriend

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — Gastonia police arrested a man accused of pushing his pregnant girlfriend out of an SUV and running her over.

Officers have been searching for Jan Michael Reinhardt for weeks after the incident on Feb. 21.

Police said they got a tip that Reinhardt was at his sister's house.

They picked him up Wednesday afternoon and brought him here on charges he tried to kill his pregnant girlfriend, Sunshine Brown.

Police said Reinhardt was wanted on two counts of driving while his license was revoked so he shouldn't have even been driving.

Channel 9 spoke with Brown on the phone. She said her hip is broken in three places, but her baby is fine.

"I am at a loss for words. I am beyond happy that he has finally been caught. I can start to live a normal life again without worrying where he is now," she said.

She said she may be here Thursday when Reinhardt makes his first appearance before a judge at the Gaston County courthouse.
