BURKE COUNTY, N.C. - Burke County deputies said a man shot and killed his wife in a trailer then walked to a gas station and called 911.
The man, Jackie Clemens, went to a BP which was about a-quarter mile down the road. Police said he told them on the phone that he accidentally shot his wife, Irene, on Halliburton Road in Morganton.
Deputies said they caught up with Clemens after he went to a nearby trailer park to see his son.
Clemens had the shotgun with him, police said.
Police said when they ordered him to put his gun down, that is when he shot and killed himself.
