Protest planned at Billy Graham Library during DNC

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — At least one protest during the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte will take place outside of uptown.

The Westboro Baptist Church is planning to protest at the Billy Graham Library in west Charlotte.

The church, based in Topeka, Kan., is best known for protesting at military funerals and for its strong stance against homosexuality.

A representative for the Billy Graham Library told Channel 9 they are aware of the church's plans to protest and that police will designate a specific site for the group to demonstrate.

The library is not aware of any other planned protests, but the representative said they do have on site security and will work closely with Charlotte-Mecklenburg police to make sure things at the library run smoothly.

Westboro Baptist is also planning to protest at convention activities in Uptown Charlotte next week.
