SC high school student collapses on track, dies

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — (AP) A high school student in Spartanburg County has died after collapsing on the track at the school.

Coroner Rusty Clevenger says officials were called to Mary Black Memorial Hospital in Spartanburg shortly after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, where 14-year-old Chaquantei Qualiq Fowler of Cowpens was pronounced dead.

Clevenger said the ninth-grader collapsed on the track at Broome High School.

The coroner says efforts were made by school personnel and emergency medical service workers to revive the teen.

An autopsy was planned Thursday to determine the cause of death.

Clevenger said there is no indication of foul play.
